Hi all, I'm a Quaker based in New York City, interested in learning more about Muslim culture and society.  Seems like an incredible social network you have here, and the addition of the Pal virtual world seems like a natural outgrowth of the forums and blogs.  I look forward to checking it out.

For those that don't know, Quakers believe that there is that of G_d in every person, and that we all seek the Light in our own ways.  Our faith often manifests in both silent corporate worship, as well as actions in the world in support of peace, justice and equality. Any other Quakes out there?

Peace to all of you, no matter whatever faith journey you are on.

I think it is great that you are seeking information about the Muslim culture, there is far too much misinformation out there. I am a Baha'i and ,as such, far less likely to be accepted on this site than you, but I too seek dialogue and to learn more about this great faith.

Thank you for sharing this. Although I have had bad experiences with my previous religion, I still respect others who are of various faiths. To each his own journey. So according to Quaker belief, is there one God but God exists within everything all of his creations?

Asalamu Alaikum wa Rachmatullahi wa Barakatahu, Thanks to my brothers and sisters who have reacted to this blog with interest and compassion. When others of different faiths reach out to us we need to respond in like to how they have approached us. Rikomatic, shukron (thankyou) for reaching out and telling us a little bit about Quakers. I am born and raised in the U.S.A. but I dont know very much about the Quakers other than what I had learned in a folklore class I took a few years ago. Peace is what we all need in our hearts, our lives, and in our dealings with others. I hope that you join in the chat room and InshaAllah a good debate may arise. Take care.

Dear Quaker, my sister goes to a quaker school. The thing I respect most about quakers is their commitment to peace and conflict resolution education, especially in children from a young age. I also really appreciate the nature of a Quaker meeting, which is lead by no one, and everyone is equal sharing their thoughts on life and spirituality. As a woman, I struggle with the masculine connotation of "GOD" which is characterized by the major organized religions today. My mother practices Buddhism and yoga as a religion, and has inspired my to seek a different path. As for myself, I am trying to build my own philosophy of life, rather than "join" an established faith. My quest in life is to find the truth, which makes sense to me, and makes me a better, more evolved person, while helping, not harming others. As a quaker, are you involved in an peace/conflict resolution movements or organizations in New York? I currently work part time (I am a university student) in the non-profit sector for nuclear disarmament and peace building. I do some work with the World Federation of United Nations Associations in New York. I am particularly interested in building a youth movement for peace, conflict resolution and disarmament.

Hello & Greetings of Peace, Glad you were able to find this forum. My name is (ms) Anisah. I live in South Dakota, USA. I think you may be the first Quaker I have ever communicated with, though some of my ancestors were Quakers. Hope you enjoy the learning process, regarding our faith's teachings.

Q: Are the Quakers similar to the Amish or am I way off?

The Quakers were very instrumental in helping out Africans Americans who were put into bondage as slaves by Whites.
