Salaam aleikum
MashaAllah, a new group opened up here today. Attachment Parenting. MashaAllah, that is so great. I am an AP-parent, and its rare to find other muslim parents who are into AP, gentle discipline, slings and whatnot hehe.
MashaAllah, to the sister who opened it!

To me, it was nice to find other mothers who did what I did to my children. I dont think it need a name, but it was anyhow nice that someone already named it, and showed that we are not weirdoes. I was on mothering-forums for quite some years, and I always felt different than the mainstream, so it was a relieve to know that I was not alone. Kind of when I discovered that it actually existed other reverts out there... I was the only one in my hometown, moved, and found a whole lot of reverts, alhamdulillah.
Like I said under here, its nothing new... ;) I dont think its new. I was raised this way, I think before even Dr. Sears putted a name to it. But it have been singled out because there was a need for an opposition to the way of parenting that came in the 80-ies, when babies were to be feed by schedule, no co-sleeping, no attention, learning to be alone, cribs, playpens and all that stuff... I dont know how old you are, or if you have kids, but I see a different just in the six years it was between my oldest and my youngest, in the advices given from nurses, doctors and midwives.
Its nothing new, really. Its a concept of raising children. You can read more here (if you look away from all the advertising lol) http://www.askdrsears.com/html/10/T130300.aspOr this, without advertising: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attachment_parentingI was raised in such a family, alhamdulillah, but I never knew it had a name really, it was just normal to me. And I have really no need to put a name to it either, in one way, but in another way, its nice to meet others who believe like I do.
salam, what is attachment parenting?ws, Aaliyah

Ah, mashaAllah, yeah, i knew we agreed in reality hehe.I meet many parents, really nice peoeple, who actually like you say, leave kids in the cribs, and just let them play by themselves, "in order to train their social skills". I was dumbstruck hehe... We do have some kind of routine here too, its not "Wild West" hehe, we sleep at regular hours, wake up almost same time, but that is because our life is like that. Kids at school need sleep.I wish i could unschool or homeschool... :D
