Learning Arabic

As'salaamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa baraakatuhu to all, recently I decided that I am seriously going to try to learn to read and write in Arabic, but I'm not sure where to start. I don't quite understand the Arabic alphabet. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated. Jazak'Allah Khair. masalaama, Michael

I met a man here in Cairo, he's chinese actually, but his arabic is very very good, masha`allah. to be honest, his arabic is a bit better than mine , and my mother language is arabic .. lol he can read Quran very well (he used to be the imam in taraweeh prayers in Ramadan) and also he gives lessons (khutbah) in arabic, masha`allah. Insha`allah your arabic will be as good as him, may be better. Next time I see him in the mosque insha`allah, I'll ask him about tips and advices for muslems who wanna learn arabic and will post it here insha`allah. May Allah (SWT) reward you all for this great effort. by the way, you can create a group on this website for learning arabic support, i think there is one already, search for it, if none found then start your own group. alsalamo alaykom

As-salam aleikum wa rahmatillah wa barakatuh I have some programs if you would. I don't know if I can send them via email. I know my own software you need the CD. I have one that teaches you Qur'anic Arabic and then how to recite Qur'an InshaALLAH ta'ala. Please let me know. Otherwise you can try and start here: Babel Arabic Just pray to ALLAH(SWT) to make it easier upon you to learn Arabic InshaALLAH and InshaALLAH ta'ala it will come with ease. As-salam aleikum

Salaam alaykum, May Allah reward you for trying to learn the language for the Quran. I am also taking classes and MashaAllah they are beautiful. InshaAllah I will buy a video camera and record lessons and post them on a website with worksheets. Make dua just to comment of what brother said "1. forget about learning the alphabet, youll be better off using roman transliterations, youll learn quicker." This was my first strategy as well and let me tell you there are some major flaws with this. First is, that you will not be able to read the Quran at all. That is a huge loss. Plus your pronounciation will be off. And you won't learn how to write which infact improves your ability to learn the language. And when you get into the language for verb conjugation and what not roman transliterations will just confuse you more. Here is how you do it. 1) Learn how to read. Once you master... 2) Start the Arabic Lessons 2a) AS you are following your textbook practicing writing out the lessons. Just copy them. 2b) occaisonally grab pieces of paper and write words at random, copy out verses of the Quran. You will begin to get very fluent in your writing. I learned how to write in two days. You learn rules like 'daal' cannot connect to anything. 'raa' can only be connected at the end of a word. It is very easy. May Allah assist you in your quest to learn the Language of the Quran. alHamdulillaah! im also a non-arab muslim who has been trying to learn arabic, heres some advice: 1. forget about learning the alphabet, youll be better off using roman transliterations, youll learn quicker. 2. since were muslims, we shouldnt listen to music, so listen to nashiid, majlis, listen to paltalk arabic channels. 3. get two arabic books, one that teaches quranic/modern stanard arabic and one that teaches a particular dialect, pick one that belongs to arabs easily available to you. 4. pray to allaah, subhaanaha wa ta@aalaa. to give you the strength not to be discouraged. jazaaka allaahu khayran!

I have some really good websites for learning to read Qur'anic Arabic. If you click a letter, the sounds is played. It's very nice. This site will teach you to read Qur'nic Arabic, not everyday Arabic. Here's the link: http://www.as-sidq.org/durusulQuran/DurusulQuran.html Personally, I don't think it is very hard to read Arabic. Mabye some of the letters are a bit hard to pronounce for non-Arabs, but it certainly isn't impossible, if you give it a bit of time and effort.
