Al Salamu Alaikom Wa Rahmatu Allahi Wa Barakatuh
Just before you read this, i wanna say that it's an arabic story my grandma told me and thought of writing it for my English assignment so there is some stuff i added from my imagination, have fun reading it =)
Thank God In the early centuries, when kings and queens used to rule the countries, there was a king who had an assistant taking care of him and protecting him.This assistant used to repeatedly thank god and say things will be okay whenever anything happened, no matter how badly it had gone. This made the king surprised and astonished. Once, after the king had his lunch, he reached an apple to eat, and as he was cutting it, the knife went through the apple and accidentally cut his finger off. The assistant immediately brought some tissues and asked the king to thank god that it wasn’t worse. At that moment, the king got furious and angry; his face turned red and he began yelling at his assistant: “What is there worse than cutting off my finger???” and then called for the guards to arrest him. The guards approached the assistant, and the assistant did nothing else but thanked god, and hoped it’s for his own good. That made the king sure that this assistant had gone nuts. Days and years passed, and the king went to the beach fishing. The weather was satisfying, and the sun was shiny, it’s warm strips passed gently through the holes of the sailing covers on to the king’s body. There was a gentle breeze passing by every now and then which made the sea water wavy and cool. His soldiers took the advantage of this pleasing weather to excuse themselves from the king for a walk on the sandy shore. As the king was having fun waiting for his fish to arrive, a tribe made their way towards the king’s ship. They surrounded the ship, and tied up the king with chains. They took him to the shore; their intention was to have him as a sacrifice to their god. The king was so furious that he shouted out loud for his guards who couldn’t hear him. He began screaming: “I’m the king, you can’t do that to me”, but the tribes took no notice for his words and instead ignored him. They lit circle of fire around him and began making weird steps and sounds as walking around the fire circle. The king struggled a lot and tried in all different ways to free him self, but that was useless. He was tightly tied that he couldn’t move a bit, but for his luck, the tribe accidentally dropped one of their kid in the circle, they went in to get him, and noticed that this king had a missing finger, so they freaked out and hurried to free him. They thought that it’s impolite to sacrifice a man with a missing finger. As the king ran away from them to his kingdom, the first thing he did was let go of his assistant. When they ended up alone, the king informed his assistant that that he now knew why he should always thank god. He told him that he was still wondering why he thanked god when he entered prison, so the assistant respectively answered the king that if he hadn’t entered prison, he would be out there on that day fishing, and after the tribe would discover the king’s missing finger, they’d run after him and he’d be dead by now. The king was fascinated by his assistant’s cleverness and intelligence, and now he sure is confident that thanking god is important no matter how silly or complex things were. The king rewarded his assistant for his wisdom, and made a big party where everyone was invited.
